The word in Hungarian for an artist currently
alive and working is kortárs (pronounced - cor-tArsh) -- or literally,
contemporary. My favorite kortárs artists are:
Lado Pochkhua
Lado started training as an artist when he was 8
in his native Republic of Georgia, and is currently living and working in
Budapest. He is currently working on a painting series inspired by old
photographs called "Anatomy of Melancholy," exploring the concepts of memory
and loss.

Caroline Allen

and former journalist who has lived and worked both in the US and overseas.
Check out her drip painting called "Boy on a Bike", among others. Fabulous!

Bazil Duliskovich
A Ukranian of Hungarian origin now living in
Budapest, Bazil is a highly skilled painter, and his subject matter is very
haunting. He's one of the freshest, and most powerful artistic voices coming
out of BP!

Zara Manucharyan
Born and raised in Yerevan,
Armenia, Zara is an abstract painter, using a combination of print-making
and painting techniques. When I met her, she was going through an evolution
in her style, inspired by a trip she had taken to Tibet.
